Father Emotional Plea in Court as Daughter’s Killer Receives Life Sentence in Albany!

The man found guilty of murdering 27-year-old local musician and designer Dominique Eley has been sentenced to 34 years to life in state prison as a Violent Predicate Felon. This sentencing took place on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 3, 2022, around 1:30 p.m. when police responded to a call reporting a shooting near 260 North Pearl Street and Livingston Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Dominique Eley with multiple gunshot wounds to her torso. She was immediately transported to Albany Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.

In Albany County Court, Judge William Little sentenced the convicted man, Purvis, to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of Eley. Additionally, he received another nine-year sentence related to a drug charge. This new sentence is to be served along with a six-year sentence handed down by another judge last week for a weapons charge in a different county.

During the sentencing, Eley’s mother, Deborah, spoke out, urging the judge to give Purvis life in prison. She expressed her deep sorrow and frustration, emphasizing the impact of her daughter’s death on their family and the community.

Deborah highlighted the ongoing issues of gun violence, poverty, and other social challenges faced by their community. Her emotional plea reflected the pain of losing her daughter, who was her “baby girl” and her “life.”

Eley’s father, Gary, also voiced his anger and heartbreak, declaring that Purvis “doesn’t deserve to live.” He described Dominique as his heart and condemned Purvis as a coward who sought to destroy the community.

Gary emphasized that despite the prison sentence, Dominique’s legacy of giving back to the community would continue, and Purvis would always be reminded of her positive impact.

Strong words accompanied Judge Little’s sentencing. He referred to Purvis as a “cold-blooded killer” and a “menace to the community” based on his criminal record. The judge made it clear that he saw no reason why Purvis should ever be given another chance to walk the streets of Albany County.

This sentencing marks the end of a painful chapter for Eley’s family, who continue to mourn the loss of a beloved daughter. However, they remain committed to ensuring that Dominique’s legacy lives on, serving as a reminder of the importance of standing up against violence and supporting the community.
