Heartwarming Fundraiser Honors Albany Woman Killed by Drunk Driver!

A heartfelt fundraiser was held in memory of 29-year-old Micah Dukes from Albany, who tragically lost her life after being hit by a drunk driver in May. The event, named “Put Up Your Dukes,” was organized by her father, Rodney Dukes, as a way to honor her memory and support the community.

The gathering, which took place at the Italian Community Center, was attended by friends, family, and many who knew Micah. It was a time to celebrate her life and ensure her legacy lives on.

Rodney Dukes emphasized that the event was meant to be a joyful occasion. “It’s a celebration; we’re not going to dwell on the sadness; we’re going to have a great time and hopefully bring the family together as well,” he shared.

Micah Dukes died suddenly on June 8th after a drunk driver crashed into her car. The driver reportedly fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police. Micah had been an active and vibrant individual, having recently graduated from Hudson Valley Community College and attended SUNY Cortland.

Rodney described Micah as someone who loved challenges and staying active. She had worked in various roles, including with the state and in the food service industry. Micah had aspirations of becoming a nurse and was passionate about basketball.

“She was a basketball fanatic, so to speak; she just loved sports in general,” Rodney said. Micah was known for her enthusiasm for professional sports, especially the New York Knicks.

The fundraiser was not only a tribute to Micah but also a way to support families in need. The money raised from raffles and donations will go to help children who want to attend sports camps but need financial assistance for shoes, uniforms, and program fees.

Rodney Dukes also noted that the event served as a family reunion, bringing together relatives who had not seen each other in years. “Some of them haven’t seen each other in 15, 20 years, so this is almost like a reunion for a lot of them,” he said. Attendees came from as far away as Warren County, Grandville, and Whitehall.
