Houston ICE Arrests Deported Mexican Killer for the Fourth Time!
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Houston have arrested Maribel Martinez Garcia, a woman with a criminal past who has been deported multiple times since 2000. Martinez, 40,
was taken into custody on Thursday in north Houston by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). At the time of her arrest, she was found carrying a counterfeit Social Security card and a fake lawful permanent resident card, authorities said.
According to ICE, Martinez is a Mexican national who has had several run-ins with U.S. immigration authorities. Her first encounter occurred in 2000 when she was just 16 years old. She was caught entering the U.S. illegally and was deported back to Mexico by ICE agents in Houston. However, this was just the beginning of her repeated attempts to reenter the country.
On January 1, 2004, Martinez tried to enter the U.S. again, this time through Progreso in South Texas, where border patrol agents intercepted her. She voluntarily returned to Mexico. Undeterred, she attempted to cross the border once more just nine days later, on January 10 but was caught and sent back for a third time.
Details about her subsequent movements remain unclear, but at some point, Martinez successfully reentered the U.S. for the fourth time. On January 1, 2007, she was arrested and charged with capital murder, a serious offense that marked a turning point in her criminal record.
In 2008, Martinez was convicted of a lesser charge of murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison. After serving a portion of her sentence, she was deported again to Mexico.
Despite her previous deportations, Martinez managed to return to the U.S. once more. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations teams in Houston and New Orleans worked together to track her down and bring her into custody. Their efforts were praised by ERO Houston Field Office Director Bret A. Bradford, who emphasized the importance of their teamwork in preventing further potential harm.
“Thanks to hypervigilance and outstanding teamwork between ERO Houston and ERO New Orleans, we were able to quickly locate this convicted murderer who has repeatedly violated our nation’s immigration laws and safely take her into custody before she could hurt anyone else,” Bradford said.
Following her recent arrest, Martinez was transported to the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas. ICE has referred her case for prosecution on charges of illegal reentry and is working closely with prosecutors to explore additional criminal charges against her.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about border security and the challenges posed by individuals who repeatedly violate immigration laws. ICE officials continue to stress the need for robust enforcement measures to prevent dangerous individuals from entering the country and posing a threat to public safety.
