How Pro-Crime Policies Fueled the Rise of Times Square’s Tren de Aragua Teen Gangs?
A group of young gang members known as Tren de Aragua is causing fear and chaos in New York City’s Times Square. Despite their violent actions, these teen thugs face little to no punishment because they’re under 18, and their crimes don’t qualify for bail under current laws.
This situation is worsened by New York’s “sanctuary city” status, which protects migrants, including those who have crossed the border illegally.
The problems we’re seeing today are a direct result of flawed policies. First, there’s the ongoing border crisis under the Biden-Harris administration, allowing a large number of migrants to enter the U.S. with little oversight.
Second, New York’s criminal justice reforms have made it nearly impossible to hold young offenders accountable, creating a perfect environment for these gangs to thrive.
This group of almost two dozen teens, known as Los Diablos de la 42, has been committing serious crimes throughout the city. They have made the Roosevelt Hotel their base of operations, taking advantage of the city’s sanctuary policies.
These gang members have been involved in more than 50 crimes, many of which took place in tourist-heavy areas. Some of their offenses include armed robberies, and they have even posted videos of their weapons on social media to show off.
Shockingly, despite these crimes, not one of these gang members has been jailed. The reason? New York’s Raise the Age law prevents most offenders under 18 from facing serious criminal charges.
Instead of going to trial, these teens are sent to Family Court, where there are no real consequences for their actions. This law was designed to protect young people, but gangs are now using it to recruit kids as young as 11 to commit crimes.
The situation is made worse by the state’s bail reform laws, which make it harder to keep criminals in jail, even when they’ve committed violent acts.
Judges, motivated by a desire to reduce incarceration, often release offenders without punishment. This allows these gang members to continue their illegal activities with little fear of getting caught or facing serious repercussions.
What we’re seeing now is the result of more than 200,000 migrants, many seeking asylum, entering New York City since 2022.
Many of these individuals are unvetted, providing the perfect cover for criminals looking to blend in. The large number of migrants has overwhelmed the city, creating more opportunities for crime and making it harder for law enforcement to keep the city safe.

These events highlight the dangers of the current border policy and the pro-crime laws that have been implemented in New York. Without major changes to both immigration and criminal justice policies, this violence will continue, leaving innocent people at risk.
These flawed policies are eroding the city’s safety and social structure, and unless political leaders take action, the situation will only get worse.
