Howard Beach Squatter Arrested: Shocking Details of Multiple Charges

Howard Beach Squatter Arrested: Shocking Details of Multiple Charges!

A woman named Laurel Bay has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes after allegedly squatting in a vacant home in Howard Beach, Queens.

The home, which has been empty since 2012, was under the management of an out-of-state homeowner. Local neighbors noticed unusual activity at the property and reported it to the police, leading to Bay’s arrest.

According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Bay illegally entered and occupied the home without the owner’s permission.

Katz emphasized that it is against the law to claim or stay on someone’s property without consent.

The case highlights the importance of community vigilance, as it was the neighbors’ reports that brought attention to the situation and resulted in the arrest.

Laurel Bay, a 49-year-old resident of Hollis, was formally charged with five serious offenses, including burglary in the second degree and criminal trespass in the second degree.

She was arraigned in front of Supreme Court Justice Toni Cimino, who scheduled her next court appearance for November 26. If convicted of the most severe charge, Bay could face up to 15 years in prison.

The incident that led to Bay’s arrest occurred on the evening of July 18. Around 8:40 p.m., a witness observed Bay moving items inside the house.

When police arrived, Bay was seen leaving the property, which led to her arrest. She was later given a desk appearance ticket, a formal notice requiring her to appear in court.

This case underscores the importance of community members staying alert to suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
