Justice Update: 3 Teen Suspects in Deadly Brighton Crash Face New Charges

Justice Update: 3 Teen Suspects in Deadly Brighton Crash Face New Charges!

Three teenagers accused of being involved in a fatal car crash in Brighton are now back in police custody. The teens were part of a high-speed chase that ended in the tragic death of Thomas Chase.

The driver, Theodicy, is facing serious charges, including murder, for allegedly driving a stolen Kia at dangerous speeds while being pursued by police.

The incident occurred when Theodice, operating the stolen vehicle, was speeding between 100 to 108 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone.

The car crashed into an intersection, resulting in the tragic death of Thomas Chase, who was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Monroe County Judge Richard Healy explained, “It was determined that the stolen Kia, operated by the defendant, traveled at approximately 100 to 108 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour speed zone without breaking as it entered into an active intersection, thereby striking and fatally injuring Thomas Chase.”

Despite Theodice’s young age, his attorney’s request to transfer the case to family court was denied. Judge Healy ruled that the severity of the incident and the multiple charges against Theodicy required it to remain in adult court.

Theodice faces charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, driving while impaired by drugs, three counts of assault, aggravated vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of stolen property.

The crash also involved Theodice’s brother, Theophilus, who was allegedly sitting in the front passenger seat during the chase.

He has been charged with assault and criminal possession of stolen property. Authorities believe Theophilus played a role in the events leading up to the crash.

Another teen involved in the chase, Simmons, was reportedly sitting in the back seat of the stolen vehicle. Simmons had previously posted bail a few weeks ago but was recently arrested again after facing new charges.

According to the police, Simmons was found with a loaded ghost gun while running from officers during the pursuit. Judge Healy, in a hearing about Simmons’ case, expressed concerns about the ongoing pattern of fleeing from police, both on foot and in vehicles.

He also cited an assault charge that Simmons is now facing. Simmons’ new charges include assault, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Judge Healy noted, “I am going to apply the same reasons here; what concerned me was the fleeing from police. In this case, on foot and then in a vehicle, and then the assault in the first degree. Things have changed since the $5,000 bail was posted.” With these concerns in mind, Simmons was taken back into custody.

All three teens are now behind bars, awaiting their next court appearance, which is scheduled for November 14.

The case has attracted significant attention due to the nature of the charges, the ages of the suspects, and the tragic outcome that left a family mourning the loss of Thomas Chase.
