Los Angeles County Woman Charged With Sword Attack That Killed Wife and Seriously Injured Mother-in-law

A woman was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with killing her wife and seriously hurting her mother-in-law with a sword almost two weeks ago.

As stated by District Attorney George Gascón, “This tragic case shows the sneaky problem of domestic violence that affects many people across our country.”

If 44-year-old Weichien Huang is found guilty of the two charges against her—one count of murder and one count of attempted murder—she could spend the rest of her life in jail. Adding major bodily injury to a person 70 years or older and using a sword in the commission of the crimes were added by the prosecutors.

Huang and her 47-year-old wife, Chen Chen Fei, got into a fight at their home in San Dimas on July 18 at the corner of Bassett Court and S. Huntington Drive. A samurai sword, or katana, was used by Huang to reportedly attack her wife and mother-in-law. This was reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Even though she was badly hurt, the mother-in-law fought Huang off with the sword and ran outside to get help. Fei died right there. Detectives say that her mother is still in a stable state after surviving.

Before being booked on July 24, Huang was taken to the hospital. Huang will likely be held on a $3 million bail by the government. The date of her hearing is July 29.

“We are deeply saddened by this horrific violence and our hearts go out to the victims’ loved ones and community,” said Gascón. “Our Bureau of Victim Services is readily available to assist the surviving victim during this time.”
