Man Charged with $140K Fur Theft in Utah Faces Arrest in New York!

A 61-year-old man accused of stealing a fur coat worth $140,000 from a store in Park City, Utah, was apprehended by authorities in New York on November 1.

Zivomir Mitic, the suspect, had been on the run since allegedly taking the coat from Sitka Fur Gallery on Main Street, Park City, on February 27.

According to court documents, Mitic carried out the theft with the help of an unidentified woman who acted as a lookout while he removed the tag from the coat and concealed it under his jacket.

The pair managed to leave the scene undetected at the time. However, they were captured on surveillance cameras both inside the store and on nearby streets.

In their efforts to track down Mitic, Park City Police employed advanced investigative tools, including a geo-fencing warrant to obtain location data linked to electronic devices within the vicinity of the store during the theft.

With assistance from Google, police identified Mitic’s IP address, tracing his travel patterns from Colorado to Park City. Records indicate he spent only about an hour in Park City before heading to Las Vegas.

Investigators also discovered that Mitic has a history of frequent travel between the United States and Serbia, his home country.

Additionally, he has been linked to several similar retail theft incidents across the nation, indicating a broader pattern of alleged criminal activity.

Mitic’s arrest in New York represents a significant step forward for Park City authorities, who are now working to extradite him to Utah. If convicted of the theft, a second-degree felony in Utah, he could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
