Mechanicville Crime Shocker: High-Speed Chase Ends in Jail Sentence!

A Mechanicville man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to stealing a truck and leading the police on a high-speed chase in Saratoga County. Jacob Hayner, 38, admitted to stealing a truck from a Stewart’s Shop in Clifton Park earlier this year and fleeing from law enforcement when they tried to stop him.

The incident occurred in May when deputies from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a stolen vehicle near Exit 10 on the Northway around 6:30 p.m. The vehicle was identified as a truck taken from the Stewart’s Shop, and police were alerted to the situation. When deputies tried to pull Hayner over, he refused to stop, leading to a chase through the area.

Hayner’s actions escalated when he rammed into a patrol car while attempting to flee. The situation grew more dangerous as he drove recklessly, posing a threat to both law enforcement and the public on the road. Despite repeated attempts by police to stop him, Hayner continued to evade them, resulting in a high-speed pursuit.

Eventually, Hayner was apprehended, and he faced serious charges for his actions. In August, he pleaded guilty to two felony counts: third-degree grand larceny for stealing the truck and second-degree criminal mischief for ramming the deputy’s vehicle during the chase. These charges reflect the severity of his actions, as both crimes carry significant legal consequences.

In court, Hayner faced a Saratoga County judge who handed down his sentence. For his crimes, Hayner received a prison term of three and one-third to ten years. This sentence reflects the seriousness of his offenses and aims to hold him accountable for the dangerous behavior that put lives at risk.

The stolen truck incident and subsequent chase highlight the risks involved in such reckless actions. Law enforcement worked swiftly to respond to the situation, but the chase posed a danger to both the officers involved and the public at large. Stealing a vehicle and attempting to flee the police are serious crimes, and the legal system holds individuals accountable for such dangerous actions.
