National Walmart Theft Scandal: Man Caught with $700K Bill Fraud!
A California man has been sentenced to over five years in federal prison for stealing nearly $700,000 from Walmart stores across the country. Jabaree Mabrey, 27, was sentenced on Thursday for using an unauthorized access device.
In addition to his prison term, Mabrey will serve three years of supervised release once he’s out. He has also been ordered to pay $690,484 in restitution to cover the stolen funds.
Mabrey’s criminal activities were revealed in April 2023 when his co-defendant, Marlon Tigner, was arrested on state charges. The investigation revealed that Walmart’s cash registers are equipped with a universal master key, which can open registers at any Walmart location. This key is held only by managers and front-end supervisors.
Tigner and Mabrey managed to obtain this master key and used it to commit thefts at Walmart stores across the country, from Washington to Massachusetts, Texas, and Wisconsin. According to U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr, the total amount stolen reached $690,484.
The case was taken up in Nebraska after Tigner was identified as a suspect during a traffic stop in Lincoln, where the master key was recovered. Further investigation confirmed that both Tigner and Mabrey had used the key to steal from several Walmart stores in Omaha.
