Shocking Bar Brawl in Johnstown: Man Charged After Violent Assault Over a Seat!
A Johnstown man is now facing legal trouble after an alleged altercation at a local bar that ended in a violent assault.
The incident took place when Richard Agurs, 33, reportedly assaulted another man after a disagreement over a bar seat.
The situation escalated quickly, resulting in severe injuries to the victim and leading to Agurs being charged with multiple offenses.
The assault occurred on June 15 at the Woodside Bar and Grill, located in Stonycreek Township.
Officers from the Stonycreek Township Police Department were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call regarding an assault.
Upon arriving, the officers met with the victim, who had sustained significant injuries.
According to the police report, the victim was sitting at the bar when he left to use the restroom.
Upon returning, he found that Agurs had taken his seat. The victim informed Agurs that the seat was his but decided to grab another stool to sit next to him instead of continuing the confrontation.
Despite this attempt to avoid conflict, Agurs allegedly became upset and threatened to assault the victim.
The situation quickly deteriorated as Agurs followed through on his threats. According to the victim’s account, Agurs struck him three times in the face and head.
The physical impact of the attack left the victim with several injuries that required immediate medical attention.
He was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where he was treated for a laceration to his lip, a contusion to his scalp, a concussion, a nasal bone fracture, and severe headaches caused by the trauma.
Police officers reviewed surveillance footage from the bar, which corroborated the victim’s version of events.
The video evidence showed Agurs attacking the victim with a closed fist, delivering three blows to the victim’s head and face.
During the incident, two security members intervened and managed to separate Agurs from the victim.
Notably, the police report stated that the victim displayed no aggressive or threatening behavior toward Agurs at any point during the altercation.
The case took an additional turn when, on September 16, the victim went to the police station to inquire about the status of the investigation into the assault.
During this visit, the victim also reported that Agurs had allegedly assaulted him a second time, this time at Tulune’s Steak and Alehouse.
According to the complaint, this second incident is currently being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police.
In a follow-up interview with law enforcement, the victim described ongoing medical issues he had been experiencing since the initial assault.
He reported vision problems and continued to suffer from severe headaches, which he believed were directly related to the trauma inflicted by Agurs.
Richard Agurs was officially arraigned on September 23. He was released on unsecured bail while awaiting trial. Agurs is now facing several serious charges, including a felony count of aggravated assault.
Additionally, he has been charged with misdemeanor offenses of simple assault and disorderly conduct. The case continues to unfold as authorities investigate both the initial incident and the second alleged assault.
