Shocking Bronx Gas Station Stabbing: Worker Fights for Life After Confronting Shoplifter!

A brutal stabbing at a Bronx gas station has left a 25-year-old employee fighting for his life after he tried to stop a shoplifter early Sunday morning.

The violent incident took place at the BP gas station on Westchester Square, near East Tremont Avenue, around 1 a.m., according to police reports.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was attempting to steal items from the gas station when the employee intervened. The situation quickly escalated when the thief pulled out a knife and viciously attacked the worker, stabbing him in the neck, arm, and head, police said.

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released details about the items the suspect managed to steal before fleeing the scene.

The NYPD has released a surveillance video and a photo of the attacker, who is described as a bald man around 50 years old, weighing approximately 180 pounds.

He was seen wearing a gray hoodie with the words “New York” and the number 35, along with black pants and burgundy sneakers. Despite efforts to locate him, he has not yet been apprehended.

In response to the attack, the United Bodegas of America has offered a $2,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Fernando Mateo, the spokesperson for the group, expressed deep concern over the growing violence targeting bodega workers and their communities.

Mateo noted that this attack occurred just ten days after another fatal stabbing in the Bronx, where a 29-year-old mother was killed during a dispute inside a deli.

The earlier incident took place at Jose Mini Market Inc. on Southern Boulevard, where Gwendolyn Guyton was stabbed multiple times in the neck and torso during a confrontation with another woman.

The attacker fled the scene on a white bicycle and has yet to be caught. Mateo condemned the rise in violence, emphasizing the need for immediate action to protect bodega workers and ensure the safety of local neighborhoods.

He called on elected officials to support their mission of creating safer environments for both employees and customers.

According to the NYPD’s latest crime statistics, felony assaults in the 49th Precinct, which includes the area of the gas station attack, have risen by about 16.5% compared to the same period last year.

While robberies in the precinct have decreased by 13%, the increase in violent assaults has sparked concern among community members and law enforcement alike.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the attack to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
