Shocking Incident: 11-Year-Old Brings Gun to Skyridge Middle School!
A man has been arrested after a concerning incident at Skyridge Middle School in Camas, where an 11-year-old allegedly displayed a gun.
The event occurred on Tuesday evening, leading to swift action by the Camas Police Department.
The police were called to Skyridge Middle School around 8 p.m. following reports involving sixth graders and the presence of a firearm.
When officers arrived, they were informed that the weapons had been secured in a truck and that everyone involved had stayed at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that an 11-year-old had been in possession of multiple firearms and a knife. According to the Camas Police Department, two guns were secured from the location.
The adult responsible for the weapons, identified as 50-year-old Kurt Hall, was arrested and cited for community endangerment due to improper firearm storage. The charge was filed as “unsafe storage of a firearm in the second degree.”
Police identified the 11-year-old child involved in the incident, and the case has been referred to the juvenile prosecuting attorney. The outcome of that process will determine whether charges will be filed against the child.
Despite the alarming nature of the event, authorities have clarified that the situation was not connected to school activities at Skyridge Middle School. Camas Police Chief Tina Jones expressed relief that no one was injured during the incident.
She reassured the public that there is currently no indication of a continued threat to public safety.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the police are working closely with the Camas School District to ensure the safety of both the school and the broader community.
In a communication sent to parents, the Camas School District provided additional details, confirming that the incident took place during a Clark County Youth Football practice. It’s important to note that the school district did not sponsor this practice.
According to the school district, after the practice session, some middle school students from Camas were involved in a parking lot altercation.
A parent observing the incident quickly called for help from the football coaching staff. Coaches responded and reported that a knife had been displayed in a threatening manner during the altercation.
As tensions escalated, one of the students reportedly retrieved a gun from a parent’s car. Fortunately, no shots were fired, and no injuries occurred. The students involved in this incident have since been placed under emergency expulsion.
The Camas School District emphasized that students’ safety is its highest priority. It reiterated that weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on school grounds.
In response to the incident, the district is fully cooperating with law enforcement to maintain a safe environment for all students as the investigation continues.
