Shocking Incident: Schenectady Worker Fired for Driving Garbage Truck Drunk and Injuring Coworker!

A Schenectady city sanitation worker has been fired after reportedly driving a garbage truck while intoxicated and hitting a coworker.

According to Schenectady Police, the incident happened on Tuesday morning around 8 a.m. on Orchard Street. The driver, identified as Robert L. Thomas, 51, was backing up the truck when he struck another worker who was loading trash into the truck’s rear compartment.

The collision pinned the worker between the truck and a pole. The injured worker was rushed to Albany Medical Center and had to undergo surgery, police reported.

Thomas now faces two charges of driving while intoxicated, along with a citation for unsafe backing. He was released with appearance tickets and is expected to face the charges in court.
