Shocking Repeat Offense: Fultonville Woman Drives Drunk with Child in Car
Heather M. Beebe, 38, of Fultonville, is facing multiple charges after being arrested for driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident marks her second aggravated DWI offense under Leandra’s Law, which enforces stricter penalties for driving intoxicated with a child passenger.
On October 20, 2024, deputies stopped Beebe in the town of Glen after receiving a complaint from the Village of Fonda.
Sheriff Jeffery T. Smith of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Beebe was driving with a child under the age of 2 in her vehicle while intoxicated.
As a result, she was charged with aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law. This law, passed in 2009, makes it a felony to drive while intoxicated with a child under 16 years old in the car.
Authorities revealed that Beebe has two prior felony convictions related to driving while intoxicated, including a previous violation of Leandra’s Law.
At the time of her arrest, Beebe’s license was suspended, and she was on probation for a felony DWI conviction.
The child involved in the incident was safely transferred to the care of another adult who arrived at the scene, ensuring the child’s safety.
Beebe, however, refused to undergo a chemical test to determine her blood alcohol concentration after being taken into custody.
Following the traffic stop, Beebe was arraigned in the Town of Glen Court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
Sheriff Smith stated that her prior criminal history, which includes similar offenses, factored into the decision to hold her without bail. Beebe is expected to appear in court at a later date to face charges.
This latest arrest raises concerns about repeat offenders, and the risks posed to public safety, particularly when young children are involved.
Leandra’s Law aims to prevent such incidents, but the case highlights the ongoing issue of individuals continuing to drive under the influence despite previous legal consequences.
In addition to the aggravated DWI charge, Beebe is also facing charges related to driving with a suspended license and violating the terms of her probation.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, with more information expected to emerge as it progresses through the legal system.
Beebe’s arrest underscores the continued need for vigilance in enforcing DWI laws, especially those protecting vulnerable children.
Law enforcement agencies emphasize the importance of reporting suspected drunk driving incidents to prevent tragedies before they occur.
