Social Security Scam: Schenectady Woman Faces Justice After Pleading Guilty!

A Schenectady woman, Annmarie Ditoro, aged 42, has admitted her guilt in a case involving multiple counts of Social Security fraud, according to federal prosecutors.

The plea was entered on Monday, with Ditoro confessing to stealing Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Survivor’s benefits that were meant for her four disabled children.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York (NDNY) explained that Ditoro previously served as the representative payee for all four of her children.

In this role, she was responsible for handling their Social Security benefits and ensuring that the funds were used solely to support the children.

However, things took a different turn in July 2022 when the Schenectady Department of Social Services removed all four of Ditoro’s children from her care.

Despite losing custody, Ditoro continued to receive the benefits meant for her children, failing to notify the Social Security Administration of the change in custody.

Authorities reported that Ditoro confessed to using over $25,000 of the benefits for her expenses, fully aware that she was no longer entitled to the money.

By keeping this information from the Social Security Administration, she violated federal laws, leading to her guilty plea on multiple charges of Social Security fraud.
