Spring Valley Crash: Yonkers Driver Charged After Injuring Officers and Civilians!

Spring Valley police have charged a Yonkers man after a severe crash on Wednesday evening involving multiple vehicles, including two police cars. The accident occurred around 7 p.m. on Route 59, between New Clarkstown Road and Dutch Lane, and resulted in nine people being injured.

The collision involved seven cars in total. According to Westchester.news12, an officer spotted a vehicle stopped in the westbound lane of Route 59 without any cars in front of it. The vehicle, driven by 54-year-old Nelson Torres, appeared to be unmoving and in drive.

Concerned for public safety, the officer positioned his patrol car in front of Torres’ vehicle to prevent any potential danger. He then called for additional officers and tried to get inside Torres’ car to offer help. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t wake Torres or access the vehicle. They even attempted to break the window to assist him.

When Torres finally woke up, he fled the scene westbound on Route 59. In his attempt to escape, Torres deliberately crashed into police cars and other vehicles. His car eventually became disabled, and he was trapped by the police vehicles. Officers then managed to remove Torres from his car and arrest him.

The crash resulted in two officers and several others being taken to local hospitals with minor injuries. Torres, who also sustained minor injuries, was transported to Nyack Hospital for medical and psychological evaluation.
