Tragedy Strikes NJ Grocery Store: Young Woman Fatally Shot, Suspect Still at Large!

A young woman was tragically shot and killed in North Jersey at a local grocery store this past week. Authorities identified the victim as 26-year-old Nakiyyah Blue, a resident of Bloomfield. According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the shooting took place at a “supermarket” located on the 300 block of South 7th St. in Newark around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

The location, described as a corner store or bodega, is believed to be the Sidi Supermarket, a small grocery store in the area. Despite quick responses from emergency personnel, Nakiyyah Blue was declared dead within 15 minutes of their arrival, unable to survive her injuries.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the incident, though they have yet to release any additional details. Prosecutors are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case. Tips can be submitted to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office (ECPO) at 877-847-7432.

Although shootings at bodegas in New Jersey are relatively rare, they have unfortunately occurred in the past. For instance, in 2022, a bodega owner from Camden was shot and killed just days before his wedding. The victim, a father of four, was remembered as a kind-hearted and humble individual. Two men were charged in connection with his murder.

In another instance in 2023, two men standing outside a bodega in Newark were gunned down in a drive-by shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored Mercedes-Benz speeding away from the scene.

While the loss of life in these incidents is heartbreaking, they serve as reminders of the dangers some neighborhoods face. As this investigation progresses, the community hopes for justice and for the perpetrators to be held accountable.
