Tragic Incident: Parents Arrested After 4-Year-Old Found Dead in Harlem Apartment!
In a tragic turn of events, the parents of a 4-year-old boy who was found dead in a Harlem apartment have both been arrested.
Authorities confirmed that the child’s mother, Nytavia Ragsdale, 26, and father, Laron Modlin, 25, face charges related to their son’s death.
Both have been charged with criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police reported that they arrived at the apartment on Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday. They found the child, Jahmeik Modlin, unconscious and unresponsive.
The police initially suspected burn marks on his body but later discovered that those marks were eczema. The child also showed signs of malnourishment.
A building resident expressed shock, saying, “My God. What kind of mess is going on? It’s hard. It hurts my heart.”
On Sunday, surveillance footage captured NYPD officers escorting Ragsdale out of her Harlem apartment as she carried her son’s body.
Neighbors expressed disbelief, saying they had no idea Ragsdale had a child. They had never seen or heard the boy playing or being active around the area.
Community advocate Iesha Sekou shared her sorrow, noting, “One of the biggest things this morning that broke my heart was that nobody knew this woman had a child.
A child was attached to this woman. When you have a 4-year-old child, that child is usually outside playing, being mischievous. Everybody knows the kid. Nobody knew a 4-year-old kid and even knew that she had a child.”
Ragsdale’s other three children have been taken into the care of relatives following the incident.
Authorities have confirmed that the Administration for Children’s Services had previously investigated Ragsdale for malnutrition claims but could not confirm them at that time.
Luis Tavares, the building superintendent, said he never heard any noise from the apartment and was unaware of any issues with the tenants.
