Tragic Loss: Man Killed After Parking Argument Turns Violent in New York!
MDrawnaq Ratin, a resident of New York, was tragically shot and killed on Saturday, just before 5 p.m., in the Cedar Road neighborhood.
The violent incident has left his loved ones devastated and calling for justice, urging authorities to investigate the shooting as a hate crime.
However, the police have stated that their investigation is still in the early stages, and no conclusions have been reached yet.
Law enforcement was alerted by a person who claimed to be the suspect. Officers arrived at the scene to find Ratin suffering from a gunshot wound.
They immediately administered first aid and rushed him to the hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Reports suggest that the suspect remained at the scene until the police arrived and handed over a handgun. However, no charges have been filed so far as the investigation continues.
Authorities are treating the case cautiously and are gathering more information to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
Ratin’s father, MDataur Liton, spoke to 7News, expressing disbelief over the tragedy. “My wife called and said, ‘Your son, he was shot.’
I cannot believe that because my son is a good guy. I don’t know who shot him,” he said, struggling to understand why his son was targeted.
According to Hammad Latif, a close friend of Ratin, the incident began as a disagreement over a parking space on the street in front of an empty lot where he and Ratin frequently spent time.
Latif explained that the shooter suddenly became angry when Ratin parked there despite it being a free parking area. The suspect then confronted them, brandishing a weapon. Latif recalled, “He tried to threaten us and attacked him. He pulled out his gun, and as we tried to return to the car, he just shot him.”
Friends and family members gathered later at the Buffalo Muslim Centre for a memorial service, mourning the loss of a beloved friend and family member.
Ratin’s father believes his son was targeted because of his identity, expressing his suspicions that it might be a hate crime. “I think this is a hate crime; they don’t like us, maybe,” he said.
Despite someone coming forward as the shooter, the police emphasized that they need to complete a thorough investigation before any charges are brought forward.
They have also reassured the public that they do not believe there is any immediate danger to others in the area. No arrests have been made at this time, but Mr. Ratin’s family remains determined to seek justice. “I am very sad; I want to see justice,” Mr. Liton stated.
Cheektowaga Police Captain Jeffrey Schmidt made a public statement urging the community to stay calm while the authorities continue their investigation.
“We are urging members of our community to remain patient and calm as we work to collect and process evidence from the scene of the homicide,” he said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information or video footage related to the shooting or the area where it occurred to contact the Cheektowaga Police Detective Bureau at (716) 686-3510.
