Tragic Shooting: 16-Year-Old Boy Killed at Brooklyn NYCHA Complex!
A 16-year-old boy was tragically shot and killed late Saturday night outside the Walt Whitman Houses, a public housing complex in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Auburn Place, near North Portland Avenue.
According to authorities, the teen was struck in the chest by gunfire and later pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. His identity has not yet been released.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots. “It wasn’t just one or two shots—it was several,” said a neighbor, who described the scene as chaotic.
Following the shooting, a gray Hyundai was seen speeding away, and the police have since recovered four bullet fragments at the crime scene. Investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have been made.
This incident marks the fifth homicide this year in Brooklyn’s 88th Precinct, a concerning rise compared to three homicides in the area in all of 2023.
The violent death of the 16-year-old is the second killing of a teen in the city within the past week. Just days earlier, another 16-year-old, Clarence Jones, was shot and killed in Harlem. These back-to-back killings highlight the ongoing challenge of youth gun violence in New York City.
Residents of the neighborhood expressed their sorrow, noting that while the area is generally calm, shootings occasionally disrupt the peace. “Sadly, such a young kid lost his life,” said another neighbor, reflecting the broader community’s shock at the senseless killing.
