Upstate New York Party Turns Deadly: 1 Shot, 1 Stabbed Amidst the Crowds!
Two people were injured during a massive outdoor party off Depot Road in Guilderland that lasted into the early hours of Sunday morning. One person was shot, and another was stabbed in incidents that prompted a large police response.
The Guilderland Police Department received a call around 1:49 a.m. about a stabbing at the party, which took place near 5777 Depot Road.
A 23-year-old from Rome, Oneida County, was found with a stab wound to the head and was taken to the hospital for treatment. While police were investigating, gunshots rang out at 2:06 a.m.
A 21-year-old from Brooklyn had been shot in the shoulder and was also transported to the hospital. Authorities did not provide updates on the conditions of either person on Sunday.
Due to the size of the party, estimated to have drawn between 800 and 1,000 attendees, mutual aid was requested to help clear the event.
The police cleared the area, which was littered with plastic cups and debris from the night’s festivities. No suspects were in custody as of Sunday, and the Guilderland Police Department continues to investigate both incidents.
The party took place at a site several hundred yards from Depot Road, accessible by a dirt road that leads to a clearing. On Sunday morning, remnants of the event were still visible, including a temporary stage, a tent, and litter scattered across the area.
One of the vendors at the scene on Sunday said he didn’t hear the gunshots but became aware of the severity of the situation when the crowd began to panic and run.
The organizers of the event had secured the necessary permits, according to police spokesperson Kristopher Scarano, but the exact purpose of the party was not immediately clear.
Posts on Facebook suggest the gathering was an after-party for the University at Albany’s homecoming weekend. While performances were held earlier Saturday night at MVP Arena, these after-hours parties are often separate from official university events.
Videos circulating on social media showed the party location with tents and a crowd enjoying musical performances. A promotional poster for the event referred to it as “The heaviest homecoming on Earth” and advertised food trucks, DJs, and “hookah drinks,” but did not disclose the exact location.
It is unclear who owns the property where the party took place. Reports from a year ago indicated that the site had been used for large events in the past, and town officials had been considering implementing special-use permits for such gatherings.
