Whitehall Man Facing Criminal Possession Charge After Traffic Stop in Wilton
A Whitehall man, Carl D. Eldridge, 57, has been arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm following a traffic stop.
The incident occurred on October 28 at around 8:15 p.m. on Ballard Road in Wilton, where Eldridge was initially stopped for a traffic violation.
During the stop, State Police determined there was an active warrant for Eldridge from Schenectady City Court, unrelated to the traffic offense.
According to the source, As officers searched, they discovered a long gun in Eldridge’s vehicle. Eldridge, however, is legally prohibited from possessing any firearms due to a previous felony conviction, making his possession of the weapon unlawful.
He was subsequently charged with criminal possession of a weapon along with other vehicle and traffic-related violations.
After his arrest, Eldridge was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Wilton Town Court on November 26.
Following the incident, he was handed over to the Schenectady Police Department.
