181 New Troopers Complete Training and Join the Ranks of the New York State Police!

ALBANY, NY – On Thursday, 181 new Troopers were officially welcomed into the New York State Police by Governor Kathy Hochul during their graduation ceremony at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

This event marks the completion of the 215th session of the New York State Police Academy, bringing the total number of Troopers serving across the state to 5,183.

Governor Hochul praised the graduates for their dedication and commitment to public service.

In her statement, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “I commend these 181 men and women for dedicating themselves to public service and their commitment to protecting the people of New York State.

The New York State Police put their lives on the line each day to keep us safe, serving as a critical lifeline for all New Yorkers.

On behalf of the State, I want to thank the graduates for their perseverance and welcome them to the long gray line.”

The graduation ceremony was also a special moment for several individuals who received specific recognition. Gavin Mannion, a graduate of SUNY Morrisville, was awarded the Joseph T.

Aversa Physical Fitness Award for achieving the highest score in the Physical Agility test among all the recruits.

Mannion, who previously served in the Army and completed a degree in automotive technology, will now serve in Troop F, based in Middletown.

As part of his award, he received a firearm and earned well-deserved recognition for his hard work.

Other new Troopers will also be heading to various parts of the state for their assignments. Trooper Hailey Martin from Sackets Harbor, Trooper Joseph Mastro from Canton, Trooper Elijah Schechter from Potsdam, and Trooper Aidan Benzel from Wanakena are all set to serve in Troop B, which operates in St.

Lawrence County. Meanwhile, Trooper Brandon Vuolo from Evans Mills will be stationed in Troop C, responsible for areas like Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.

Additionally, Trooper Cordel Brouty from Lowville will join Troop D, covering Jefferson and Lewis counties.

These new Troopers will begin their field duty assignments on Wednesday, October 23, and they will undergo a ten-week field training program to ensure they are fully prepared for their roles.

New York State Police Superintendent Steven James also praised the graduates, acknowledging their hard work and sacrifices over the past six months.

He said, “Today’s graduation is the culmination of six months of difficult classwork, physical training, and sacrifice, and we now welcome our newest members to one of the most prestigious and well-respected law enforcement agencies in the nation.

I am confident they are equipped to carry out our mission to serve our communities with the same professionalism and pride the State Police have exhibited for the past 107 years.”

The addition of these 181 new Troopers strengthens the force and ensures that communities across New York will continue to receive the protection and service they need.
