Albany’s Banana-Themed Bash Raises Funds for Local Food Pantrie!
The second annual banana-themed fundraising party took place on Sunday at the Lost and Found Bar and Kitchen in Albany. Two friends, JC Colletti and Bridget McGinley, came up with the idea to throw a banana-themed party while also giving back to the community.
Their unique concept of “partying for a purpose” aligned perfectly with their desire to support the Food Pantries of the Capital District. For the second year in a row, Colletti and McGinley decided to celebrate their birthdays by hosting this fun-raiser. They aimed to bring together over 100 friends, customers, and family members for a good time while raising money for a worthy cause.
According to the source, “If we’re going to be here having a great time, why not raise money for charity?” McGinley said, emphasizing the importance of giving back while enjoying the celebration.
The party featured a strong banana theme, with attendees donning banana-themed outfits, costumes, and jewelry. The previous year’s event raised $5,000, and this year, the duo was hopeful they could surpass that amount.
“It would be great if we could surpass $5,000,” McGinley stated, adding that a new goal of $6,000 might be within reach. Colletti quickly agreed, supporting the idea of aiming for even higher fundraising results.
The event garnered enthusiastic support from both the attendees and the local community. Sarah Gabler, a bar employee, joined in the fun by wearing barrel-of-monkey earrings.
She was equally passionate about the cause, recognizing the importance of supporting the nearly 60 food pantries in the Capital District. “I think it’s absolutely amazing,” Gabler said. “Having a party and donating the proceeds to a good cause is especially meaningful when so many people are struggling with hunger.”
JC and Bridget noted that the strong commitment to the banana theme helped draw in more support. Funds were primarily raised through a raffle, which featured items donated by local businesses and individuals in the service industry. “So many businesses around the Capital Region were incredibly generous in their donations,” Colletti shared, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed.
In addition to the raffle, funds were raised through bar sales, the sale of themed T-shirts, and direct donations. The event was a hit with attendees of all ages, including Sarah’s son, Colden, who enthusiastically embraced the banana theme. “It’s very banana-y,” Colden remarked, clearly enjoying the festivities. “I really like it. I know this is going to be a fun party.”
Several local businesses co-sponsored the event, including Remarkable Liquids, Druthers Brewing, The Ballonary, Season’s Skate Shop, and Rage Cakes Albany. With the party’s continued success, JC and Bridget are already looking forward to throwing it again next year, hoping to make an even greater impact on the community.
