America’s top 5 dog-friendly cities include 2 in Southern California

By far, the most popular pet in the United States is the dog, and you can see that in Southern California.

PetMD says that 65.1 million U.S. households have a dog, and a study from U.S. News shows that the number of pet owners and people who sign up for pet insurance has grown a lot since 2020.

The study looked at a database of insured registered dogs and ranked dog ownership by city to find the 25 most dog-friendly cities in the United States.

Los Angeles is at the top of the list. It may have been 33rd on U.S. News’ list of the top 50 U.S. places for dog owners, but the Los Angeles Almanac says that 561,176 Angeleno households have a dog, making it the city with the most dogs in the country.

That’s in contrast to the 320,000 homes in the city that have cats.

More than 500,000 dogs live in San Diego, which puts it at number five on the list of the most popular dog towns in the United States.
