Breaking: Trustco Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested in Town of Colonie!
Town of Colonie, NY — A suspect is in custody following an armed robbery at Trustco Bank in the Town of Colonie, with authorities crediting swift community cooperation and the skillful work of the Colonie Police Department and K-9 unit.
On October 30, 2024, Colonie police responded to reports of a robbery at the Trustco Bank on Columbia Street Extension. Witnesses reported seeing a masked individual fleeing through nearby neighborhoods, sparking a swift police response.
According to Colonie Police Chief Jay Gerace, the suspect approached a bank teller, displayed what appeared to be a firearm, and handed over a note demanding cash.
After securing the money, the suspect fled the bank, leading police and the K-9 unit to search the surrounding area.
The Colonie Police K-9 team, with the assistance of “Good Boy” K-9 Eddie, located the suspect in a wooded area near the bank. Officers were able to apprehend the individual within an hour of the initial reports.
“It was a fantastic show of teamwork between residents and their officers,” Chief Gerace said, commending the community for their help in providing critical information.
Chief Gerace noted that no injuries were reported in the incident, and both bank employees and customers were unharmed. He added that the investigation remains in its early stages, and further details will be shared as they become available.
