Cold Alert: Freezing Weather Expected in New York on These Days!
Winter in New York is known for its cold and snowy days, but this season could bring especially harsh conditions. Weather experts are warning New Yorkers to brace for some extremely cold days and significant snowstorms, particularly in late January.
The Farmers’ Almanac predicts that the upcoming winter will be “wet and cold,” influenced by the La Niña weather pattern. This means more moisture and chilly temperatures across the state.
Major Snowstorm Expected in Late January
According to the Farmers’ Almanac, New York could face a big snowstorm between January 20 and 27. These dates are “red-flagged” for heavy snow, rain, sleet, and ice, depending on your location.
“We would especially highlight the time frames from January 20 to 23 and January 24 to 27, which could mean copious amounts of snow, rain, sleet, and ice,” the Farmers’ Almanac states.
Coldest Winter Days Predicted
Every winter, New Yorkers expect snow and freezing temperatures, but the severity varies each year. This time, the coldest outbreak of the season is predicted during the last week of January and early February.
The Farmers’ Almanac warns of frigid Arctic air sweeping across the country, causing a sharp drop in temperatures. This could make late January the most challenging part of the winter for New Yorkers.
2024-25 Winter Outlook for the Hudson Valley
Hudson Valley weather expert Ben Noll has shared his winter predictions for 2024-25. While he doesn’t expect a snowier-than-usual winter, he does note the possibility of a few well-timed storms that could lead to snow days.
From November through March, the chances of above-normal snowfall are relatively low. However, specific storms may still bring disruptions to the region.
