As soon as the issue was detected, Hannaford’s security team began an investigation with help from external cybersecurity experts. In a press release, the company stated, “We also notified law enforcement,” to emphasize the seriousness of the situation and their commitment to resolving the issue.

The issue was revealed on Friday, Nov. 8, when Hannaford Supermarkets announced that some stores, pharmacies, and the website were experiencing network errors. To address the situation, Ahold Delhaize USA decided to take certain systems offline to help control the impact.

Hannaford’s to-go orders for both pick-up and delivery have been cancelled as part of the recovery steps. Customers who had a to-go order cancelled may notice a pending transaction on their account, but this will clear within a few days.
