Heartfelt Generosity: Trucks Full of Donations Head to Hurricane Victims in North Carolina!
On Wednesday morning in Rotterdam, a group of volunteers gathered in a circle for a moment of prayer before beginning their journey.
They were preparing to head south to bring essential supplies to the people of North Carolina, who had been hard hit by Hurricane Helene.
One of the volunteers, Ron Fonda, mentioned how crucial the aid was going to be for those in need.
“I have approximately 40 generators on my truck that will be distributed to people who really need them,” Fonda said. “Something that small will make a big difference to some people.”
These trucks are part of a larger relief operation designed to help communities in North Carolina affected by the hurricane.
While the trucks are already on their way, the outpouring of support hasn’t stopped. Donation sites have been set up all around the region to keep the momentum going.
At one such site, Dagen Trucking in Castleton, donations keep piling up. There are stacks of items ranging from blankets and diapers to bottles of water and first aid kits.
Mary Keim, the owner of Dagen Trucking, shared her thoughts on the community’s generosity. “People have been so generous donating when they don’t have any money themselves to pay their bills,” she said.
“Take a look! It’s been absolutely unbelievable. We have a bunch of people stopping today, making calls to us asking us what we need, and we tell them anything and everything.”
One of the many generous contributors, Travis Landry, arrived with a car full of donations. His family brought bins filled with brand-new shirts in various colors to help those in need.
This donation drive began just a few days ago when Justin Sherwin of East Greenbush proposed delivering supplies to the hurricane victims.
What started as one pickup truck soon turned into a convoy of tractor-trailers and other vehicles filled with donations.
“We have another truck leaving on Saturday, and we’ll continue to go as long as we can,” said Sherwin, expressing his determination to keep the relief efforts going as long as there are people in need.
The volunteers know that the situation in North Carolina remains uncertain, but they are encouraged by the incredible generosity and unity shown by their community.
They are fully committed to helping those affected by the hurricane, no matter the challenges they might face on the road ahead.
Their dedication to delivering these supplies is a testament to the power of collective action and the spirit of giving.
