Illinois Records 5% Increase in Firearm Sales Despite Recent Gun Control Legislation

According to a recent survey, the number of firearms sold in Illinois climbed in the previous year, despite the state’s efforts to tighten its gun restrictions.

Between the years 2022 and 2023, the number of firearms sold climbed by around five percent, as stated in a report by the security company Safehome. During that time, it is anticipated that about 505,000 weapons were sold.

The Protect Illinois Communities Act, which prohibited assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker in January of 2023.

The corporation stated that the information was obtained from the national instant criminal background check system that is operated by the FBI.

Gun sales were also up in the states of North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Florida. Sales in North Carolina increased by 112% as a direct result of a new law that eliminated the requirement for individuals to obtain a permit to make purchases.
