Internet Hoax: Viral Rat Photo at Albany NY Walmart Debunked!
You’ve probably seen the viral photo of a rat in a Walmart, and it might have made you shudder. The last thing anyone wants to see while shopping for groceries is a rodent. Even though pests can sometimes be found in food storage places, seeing one so openly is definitely off-putting.
Recently, a photo claimed to show a rat near the tortillas at Walmart on Washington Ave. Ext in Albany has been circulating on social media. Posted on Facebook on May 20th, it has been shared by over 900 people across the Capital Region, causing quite a stir.
At first glance, it seems believable. But I decided to dig a little deeper to uncover the truth behind this photo. Trusting your instincts can often lead to important discoveries, and in this case, it revealed that the photo might not be what it seems.
I decided to visit the Walmart on Washington Ave. Ext. in Albany to investigate. My initial suspicion was that this could be a hoax, and my visit confirmed it. The store layout in the viral photo does not match the actual Walmart. The tortillas in the photo are shown on a display stand, but in reality, tortillas at this Walmart are located at the end of the bread aisle.
You might think the tortillas could have been moved, but that’s not all. The floor in the viral photo is tiled, while the Walmart floor is concrete. I checked out the only display in the store that somewhat resembled the one in the photo, which was near the freezer section and contained snack crackers. The floor in that section still didn’t match the tiled floor in the photo.
Additionally, the photo shows a garbage can or pole near the display that is not present in the Walmart location I visited. This further confirms that the photo doesn’t accurately represent the Walmart on Washington Ave. Ext.
With so much misinformation online, it’s crucial to verify the facts before believing or sharing such content. The viral photo of the rat was indeed misleading, and it’s important to stop circulating it. The Walmart in Albany does not have rodents running around in the open, as the photo suggests.
