Massachusetts Man Sentenced for Selling 50,000 Fentanyl Pills in Massive Drug Bust!
A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for distributing tens of thousands of fentanyl and methamphetamine pills in Massachusetts and New York.
Angel Joel Diaz, also known as “Guero,” from Haverhill, admitted to his crimes in April 2024 and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns.
The charges against Diaz included distributing and possessing large amounts of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and methadone. Investigators found that he was manufacturing counterfeit prescription pills containing these dangerous substances.
The investigation began in January 2023 when an undercover officer posed as a customer interested in buying the illegal pills. On January 11, Diaz sold the officer 208 pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine.
During their interaction, Diaz explained that the pills were made with fentanyl and were causing serious harm to users in New York.
Diaz continued to distribute counterfeit fentanyl pills on January 27 and February 7, 2023. On February 14, he sent a photo of his pills to the undercover officer, saying that making them—even with a mask—caused nausea and other unpleasant effects.
The next day, Diaz was arrested while carrying a shopping bag containing over 31,000 fentanyl pills divided into plastic bags.
When police searched Diaz’s home in Haverhill, they discovered two pill presses, thousands more pills, powdered fentanyl, methadone, masks, stamps for making counterfeit pills, and chemicals used in production.
In total, more than 6 kilograms of fentanyl, 381 grams of methamphetamine, 81 grams of methadone, and around 50,000 counterfeit pills were seized.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), with help from Massachusetts State Police and Haverhill Police Department, announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel R. Feldman handled the case.
