North Carolina Receives $421 Million From EPA to Combat Climate Change and Enhance Environmental Resilience
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a grant of $421 million to North Carolina to battle climate change, reduce air pollution, advance environmental justice, and build climate resilience. North Carolina is one of the recipients of this funding.
The money for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was revealed on Monday by Representative Deborah Ross. The investment is designed to minimize greenhouse gas emissions across the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia, as well as protect and restore forest and wetland areas that are located along the coast.
The grant is anticipated to provide more than fifty million dollars to the state of North Carolina.
This funding was given to the Atlantic Conservation Coalition, which is a cooperation between the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources of North Carolina, the Office of Resilience of South Carolina, the Department of Environment of Maryland, and the Department of Wildlife Resources of Virginia.
Following the information provided by her office, Ross joined Senator Thom Tillis and Reps Valerie Foushee, Jeff Jackson, and Wiley Nickel in expressing their support for the coalition’s application for the award.
According to the office of Ross, the Atlantic Conservation Coalition will collaborate with The Nature Conservancy to protect the environment.
Ross expressed his excitement in a statement, saying, “I am incredibly excited to see a historic $421 million coming to North Carolina and other mid-Atlantic states to combat the climate crisis and protect our rich environmental heritage through the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program.”
According to the statement, “I supported our state’s application for this grant and fought to pass the Inflation Reduction Act to deliver transformative investments that will improve the quality of the air and water, reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, and preserve our environment for future generations.”
I am pleased to be a part of this courageous movement, and I will keep working toward the goal of making the future a better and more sustainable place for all of the people living in North Carolina.
