A New York City resident just got incredibly lucky by winning a $1 million prize from the Cash4Life lottery, according to lottery officials.

Byron E. Scott, who lives in Manhattan, won a second-prize ticket worth $1,000 a week for life after matching the first five numbers drawn on May 1, 2024.

The Cash4Life second prize comes with a minimum payout of $1 million, giving Scott a major win.

The winning ticket was purchased at Hudson News, located at 1 Penn Plaza in Manhattan. Byron Scott chose to take a single lump sum of $612,240 after the required taxes were withheld.

The winning numbers for that night were 9, 13, 27, 31, 44, and 3, and the Cash Ball number was also 3.

In Cash4Life, winning numbers are picked from a pool of 1 to 60, and the Cash Ball is selected from a separate group of 1 to 4 numbers.

To win the top prize in the Cash4Life game, you need to match all six numbers five main numbers plus the Cash Ball.

The top prize for Cash4Life is $1,000 every day for the rest of the winner’s life. The winner can choose to get this prize as a yearly payment of $365,000 for life (at least 20 years) or as a one-time lump sum.

The lump sum is basically the cash amount needed to buy the annuity for the yearly payments.
