Spooky Halloween Display Helps WNY Kids in Their Fight Against Cancer!
Every year, people look forward to seeing amazing Halloween decorations, and if you’re in Western New York, there’s one front yard in Amherst that’s worth a visit. Not only will you experience a spooky and fun display, but your visit could also make a big difference in the life of a child or teenager fighting cancer.
The organization responsible for this heartwarming initiative is called “Special Spaces.” They’re a national foundation dedicated to creating dream bedrooms for kids battling cancer.
In New York, their only chapter is located right here in Western New York, and they’ve been hard at work turning children’s bedroom wishes into reality.
Kids between the ages of 2 and 19 who are either currently in treatment or have been in remission for less than a year are eligible to receive a dream bedroom makeover.
The display at 59 Presidio Place in Amherst isn’t just about Halloween fun—it’s also a way to raise awareness and support for the mission of “Special Spaces.”
During this year’s Halloween display, the organization received a generous donation of $1,000 from Bank on Buffalo. This contribution will go towards creating even more dream bedrooms for children dealing with the challenges of cancer.
Lynn Wall, the director of “Special Spaces Buffalo,” explained how the process works. She mentioned that many of the kids they help spend a lot of time in the hospital. When they start a project, the team sits down with each child to learn about their favorite things—whether it’s sports, movies, or even a favorite color.
The goal is to create a space that truly reflects the child’s personality and interests. Lynn shared that when they complete a room, almost all the children are excited to sleep in their new beds, which isn’t always the case before the project begins.
