Deadline Extended: New Yorkers Now Have Until Dec. 20 to Submit Replacement SNAP Benefit Claims!
New Yorkers now have more time to submit claims for replacement Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The deadline to apply was originally set for Monday, but it has now been extended to December 20. This gives recipients additional time to file for replacements if their benefits were lost or stolen.
Since August 2023, the Department of Social Services has processed more than 111,000 individual claims for both SNAP and Cash Assistance replacements.
Out of these claims, $32.1 million has been approved for SNAP benefit replacements, while another $3.6 million has been approved for Cash Assistance. These figures show how many New Yorkers have needed support due to lost or stolen benefits.
One of the major issues causing this surge in replacement claims is the reported theft of SNAP benefits.
Many recipients believe their benefits were stolen through hacked credit card machines, which has become a concerning problem for thousands of New Yorkers. The replacement process is the only way for victims to recover their lost funds.
If you have been affected by this issue and need to file a claim, you can do so online.
However, if you prefer to submit your forms in person, there are seven centers in Brooklyn available to assist you. You can visit one of these centers to complete your application and ensure your benefits are replaced.
The extended deadline gives New Yorkers extra time to secure the benefits they rely on. If you think your SNAP benefits were stolen, don’t wait to submit your claim.
The sooner you apply, the sooner you can recover your lost funds and continue receiving the support you need.
