New Yorkers Warned to Stop Using Several Fridges Right Away!

In recent news, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has taken action by recalling 383,240 Frigidaire Branded Side by Side Refrigerators with Slim Ice Buckets. This recall comes in response to reports of plastic found in the ice bucket of these refrigerators, raising concerns about potential hazards.

The affected fridges, sold between November 2015 and September 2019, have been associated with at least two injuries, including laceration and ingestion incidents.

The CPSC specifies that the ice bucket assembly component in the recalled refrigerators is prone to breakage, leading to plastic pieces entering the ice bucket. Such a scenario poses significant risks to consumers, including the potential for choking and lacerations, especially if the plastic pieces are dispensed during normal use.

This recall applies to specific models of Frigidaire branded side-by-side refrigerators with Slim Ice buckets, manufactured between 2015 and 2019. To ensure the safety of their appliances, consumers are advised to check their refrigerator model numbers against the recall list provided by the CPSC.

The Electrolux Group, the manufacturer of Frigidaire, has reported 343 instances of plastic pieces breaking off from the ice bucket, resulting in two documented injuries related to laceration and ingestion. These injuries occurred when the plastic pieces were dispensed out of the recalled ice bucket during regular usage.

The affected fridges were retailed by major outlets such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, and other nationwide stores, in addition to being available on Frigidaire.com, during the period from November 2015 to September 2019.

In response to the recall, consumers who own the affected refrigerators are strongly urged to cease using the ice makers immediately. To address the issue, they should contact the Electrolux Group to request a replacement ice bucket assembly component, which will be provided free of charge.

The safety of consumers is paramount, and in light of the reported injuries and potential hazards, immediate action is crucial. Ceasing the use of the ice makers is a preventive measure until the replacement ice bucket assembly can be installed, minimizing the risk of laceration and ingestion injuries.

With the widespread availability of the affected fridges in major retail outlets, cooperation from retailers such as Lowe’s and Home Depot is essential to facilitate the recall process. Their collaboration in informing customers and expediting the replacement process is vital to ensuring consumer safety and preventing further incidents related to the defective ice bucket assembly.

As New York residents and consumers nationwide navigate this recall, prioritizing safety is key. Adhering to the recall instructions, discontinuing the use of the affected ice makers, and promptly seeking a replacement are crucial steps.
