In a thrilling contest at Cool Insuring Arena, Niskayuna made history by claiming the Class AA crown, breaking a 43-year championship drought since their last title in 1978. Facing off against La Salle, the Silver Warriors initially found themselves trailing, but the tide shifted with the sharpshooting prowess of Ethan Gilson.
His lethal three-pointers not only swung the momentum but also propelled Niskayuna into the lead, finishing the first half with a 27-25 advantage.
The halftime buzzer saw Daniel Smalls extending Niskayuna’s lead with a well-timed shot. The third quarter proved decisive, as Gavin Olsen’s dominant play allowed Niskayuna to pull away, establishing a lead of up to 15 points.
Despite La Salle’s efforts to mount a comeback, including a powerful slam by Davon Maloney, Jadan Hood’s layup became the dagger that secured an eight-point lead for the Silver Warriors with less than a minute on the clock.
As the game neared its conclusion, Niskayuna’s precision at the foul line became a crucial factor.
