The driver in the US 101 collision was a resident of Redwood City
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has identified Redwood City resident Suryanshu Gehlot as the man died in last week’s U.S. Highway 101 crash.
Before three in the morning on Friday, May 31, the event happened on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Palo Alto, north of the San Antonio Road on-ramp.
The California Highway Patrol collision report states that two other drivers struck Gehlot, who was operating a red Hyundai SUV.
Gehlot struck a pole, damaging the car, and then phoned the police. After that, he left the Hyundai for an unspecified reason. Authorities said that Gerlot passed away at the scene.
The Hyundai was subsequently struck in the rear by a Silver Scion, which caused it to move northeast. According to CHP, a yellow Freightliner drove between the two cars and struck them while trying to avoid them.
According to CHP Officer Sophie Lu, “it is unknown if the driver sustained any other injuries from the crash where they hit the pole versus outside the vehicle.”
The other two cars’ drivers were uninjured.
