A shocking video has emerged showing the brutal attack on former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Anthony Sliwa, on the streets of New York City.
The incident reportedly took place on October 4 on the Upper East Side, involving two city housing authority workers and a group of young troublemakers. The disturbing footage has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety of public figures and everyday citizens alike.
According to Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, his 20-year-old son Anthony was left battered and bruised after the violent confrontation. In a post on social media platform X, Sliwa stated that Anthony is still recovering from the attack, which he described as a “brutal beatdown.” He also noted that former Governor Paterson is also recovering from his injuries.
“He is still recovering as he was violently beaten to the ground while standing his ground with Governor Paterson, who is recovering as well,” Curtis Sliwa wrote in his post. “The attack was cowardly, and the adults involved escalated the situation unnecessarily.”
The conflict allegedly began when Anthony Sliwa confronted a group of teenagers climbing on a fire escape. The young troublemakers retaliated by returning with their group and confronting Anthony and his stepfather, leading to a physical altercation.
The video footage, which appears to have been captured from inside a nearby McDonald’s, shows several individuals kicking and punching Anthony while he lies on the ground. In the midst of the chaos, former Governor Paterson, who is legally blind, is seen trying to pull the attackers away from his stepson.
In response to the attack, Paterson recounted the incident, saying, “One youngster slugged me, and I hit him back. I threw him into the window of McDonald’s, and I hit him again.”
The former governor made it clear that he believed the adults involved were the ones who escalated the situation. “The adults can rot in hell as far as I’m concerned,” Paterson added.
The police have since arrested Travor Nurse, 40, and Diamond Minter, 34, both employees of the New York City Housing Authority.
They have been charged with second-degree assault in connection with the incident. Additionally, three teenagers, aged 12 and 13, turned themselves into the police. Two of them were charged, while the third was released without charges after authorities determined that he did not participate in the attack.
Curtis Sliwa, who has been vocal about crime and safety issues in New York City, expressed his frustration over the rising violence in the city.
He warned that if a former governor is not safe from violence, then no one in the city is safe. “Too many NYC families have had a loved one fall victim to violence,” he stated. “If we don’t get our city back in order, we will never be able to keep our most vulnerable residents safe.”
