After the collision on Boston Neck Road on Thursday night, Daniel J. Famiglietti was taken into custody, according to North Kingstown police.

Just before 7 p.m., according to the police, a 53-year-old North Kingstown woman was struck from behind by a Jeep while riding a tricycle in the breakdown lane.

After being brought to Kent Hospital, the woman—later identified as Linda Sherman—was declared deceased.

Famiglietti, 59, of Warwick, was accused of driving while intoxicated, which led to his demise.

Famiglietti is a former Providence police officer who retired in early 2022, the city of Providence confirmed to 12 News.

After being charged on Friday morning, he was freed on bond.

Investigations into the crash are still ongoing. Call the North Kingstown police at (401) 294-3316, ext. 8211, if you have any information.
