Tragic Bronx Incident: Man Fatally Beaten with Baseball Bat Over Rent Dispute!
A tragic incident in the Bronx has left a man dead after a violent altercation with his landlord’s brother over rent money.
Police sources say 30-year-old Kristopher Samaroo was brutally attacked with a baseball bat on Saturday at a home located on the Throgs Neck Expressway, near Layton Avenue. Samaroo was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim’s fiancé, Brittney Shears, spoke to News 12 about the horrifying event. She shared that Samaroo had gotten into a heated argument with their landlord’s brother, which quickly escalated.
According to Shears, the landlord’s brother went to his car, grabbed a steel bat, and ran to their house. “He started hitting my husband with the bat,” Shears recalled. “They struggled, and my husband tried to fight back, but they fell to the ground.”
Shears explained that at this point, the landlord also became involved in the attack. “The landlord kept insisting we were not paying rent, but that’s not true,” Shears said.
She went on to explain that the landlord had been accepting partial rent payments due to ongoing issues with their apartment, particularly a lack of hot water.
According to Shears, the hot water had been shut off multiple times, leaving her family without necessities.
Records from the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development show that the property had at least 67 complaints and 17 violations in the past two years, many of which were related to the hot water issue. Shears added that they had been living in the apartment since 2022.
“He was my soulmate,” Shears said through tears. “We were supposed to get married. He brought me out of depression.
Now, I’m left raising two little girls, aged 2 and six months, by myself.” She described the incident as senseless, expressing the pain of losing her partner. “My girls don’t deserve to grow up without their father,” she said.
As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made in connection to the attack. Police have stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
