The First city in the Bay Area to provide free bus travel is Petaluma

Petaluma is the first city in the Bay Area to provide free bus transportation to its residents.

As part of a pilot experiment that will last for one year, the city’s public transportation services will be fully free of charge.

The purpose, according to the leaders of the city, is to assist people in learning about public transit, remove barriers related to cost, and meet the climate goals of the city.

To be eligible for free rides, riders do not need to be residents of Petaluma.
