Disturbing Attack in Queens: Woman Targeted After Leaving Subway – Urgent NYPD Search Underway!
In a shocking incident on February 24 in Queens, a 20-year-old woman experienced a harrowing assault after leaving a subway station. The assailant, who followed her off a Queens-bound F train at the 169th Street station in Jamaica just after midnight, subjected her to a brutal attack.
Inside the mezzanine of the station, the suspect punched the victim multiple times, covered her face, and attempted to remove her clothes, to commit a heinous act. The victim’s desperate cries for help alerted a vigilant security guard, whose timely intervention thwarted the assailant’s assault.
Despite the guard’s intervention, the suspect managed to flee on foot towards 168 Place. The victim was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
This disturbing incident sheds light on the broader issue of increasing crime rates within New York City’s subway system in 2024. According to recent NYPD statistics, crime has surged by 45% compared to the same period in 2023, with grand larcenies constituting the majority of reported crimes.
In response to this concerning trend, NYC Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban have deployed over 1,000 officers daily to the subway system since February. This strategic move is part of a comprehensive effort to combat fare evasion and enhance overall security.
The aggressive policing approach has resulted in a notable increase in arrests, reflecting a concerted effort to address criminal activities within the subway network.
The intensified efforts by law enforcement have also led to the recovery of 17 firearms in the past month alone, marking a threefold increase from the previous year. Additionally, there has been a 44% rise in arrests related to weapons possession.
The alarming statistics extend beyond commuters, as seven MTA employees have fallen victim to assaults this year, highlighting the pervasive nature of subway-related crimes.
