Tioga Tigers Ready to Wrestle for Individual State Glory!
Tioga Central High School’s wrestling team is gearing up for the highly anticipated New York State Division 2 wrestling championships set to take place in Albany this weekend. With an impressive lineup of ten talented wrestlers, the Tigers are poised to make a significant impact and vie for individual state championships.
Known as a wrestling powerhouse, Tioga Central High School has consistently demonstrated its prowess in the sport, and this year is no exception. The team, aptly named the Tigers, features star athletes such as Ousmane Duncanson, Gianni Silvestri, and Caden Bellis. Notably, all three have already secured state championships in the past, setting a high standard for their teammates to follow.
Duncanson and Silvestri, in particular, stand on the cusp of making school history by aiming for their third state titles. The gravity of this achievement is not lost on the athletes, who acknowledge the hard work and dedication that have propelled them to this pivotal moment.
Silvestri emphasizes the team’s collective preparation for such significant events, stating, “It’s no different than any other tournament we’ve gone to.” He adds, “There’s no pressure; it’s not any bigger or smaller than anything else we’ve done this year.”
Duncanson echoes this sentiment, highlighting the team’s commitment to improvement. “Everyone’s been training for moments like these. I know we’ve got a couple of guys on the team who might not have done as well as they wanted to do at the state tournament, so they look to improve.”
Approaching the state championships with a calm and focused mindset, the Tigers see the tournament at the MVP Arena in Albany as just another step in their journey. Silvestri notes, “It’s a four-man tournament. So, there’s no pressure; it’s not any bigger or smaller than anything else we’ve done this year.”
With the action set to kick off on Friday, all eyes will be on the Tioga Tigers as they aim to showcase their skills and secure state championships once again.
