Zelensky: Speaker Johnson said he’d do ‘everything’ to support Ukraine

Speaker Johnson Promises Full Support for Ukraine

In a recent interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared an optimistic message regarding House Speaker Mike Johnson’s commitment to supporting Ukraine. Zelensky revealed that Speaker Johnson assured him of doing “everything” to aid Ukraine in its struggle for stability and security.

The emphasis during their conversation was on trust and the pivotal question of whether international partners could be relied upon in challenging times such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

During his visit to the United States, Zelensky conveyed a similar message to President Joe Biden, urging both the President and Speaker Johnson to prioritize a bipartisan approach to expedite a deal on military aid. Zelensky pleaded for a temporary pause on partisan issues between Democrats and Republicans, recognizing the challenging nature of the ongoing election period.

President Biden had proposed a comprehensive aid package, including substantial military funding for Ukraine, over four months ago. Despite the Senate’s bipartisan support and the passage of a national security funding package with $60 billion allocated for Ukraine, the House, under Speaker Johnson’s leadership, has yet to bring the aid package to the floor for a vote.

This delay highlights the hurdles in achieving bipartisan consensus on crucial international matters within the complex political landscape of the United States Congress.
