Teens in Trouble: Albany Shooting Incident Leads to Charges

In a recent development concerning a shots-fired incident on Central Avenue in Albany, New York, two minors have been apprehended and charged in connection with the February occurrence.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, February 21, 2024, law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire near Central Avenue and Ontario Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence consistent with multiple rounds being discharged from a handgun, initiating a thorough investigation.

During the inquiry, detectives learned that two male suspects had fired several rounds before fleeing the scene on foot. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries resulting from the gunfire. Further investigation led authorities to a residence on 400 Central Avenue, where it was determined that the suspects had entered before the incident.

Subsequently, members of the Children and Family Service Unit executed a search warrant at the aforementioned residence, where two loaded 9mm handguns were recovered. However, the suspects had already fled before the search could be conducted. Nevertheless, diligent efforts by law enforcement led to the identification and apprehension of the individuals involved.

The first suspect, a 15-year-old whose identity has been withheld due to legal reasons about his age, was arrested on Friday, March 1. He was charged with one count of Reckless Endangerment 1st and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.

Following his arrest, the minor was arraigned in Albany County Family Court and subsequently remanded to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.

Similarly, the second suspect, a 17-year-old whose name has also been withheld, was apprehended on Wednesday, March 13. He faced a more extensive list of charges, including one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, one count of Reckless Endangerment 1st, two counts of Criminal Possession of a firearm, and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.

After his arrest, the 17-year-old was arraigned in Albany County Family Court on Thursday, March 14, and subsequently remanded to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.
